NY Musician Reneges on Reward; Declares Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Written by CFB Blogger. Posted in Blog
Rapper Ryan Leslie has recently filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in an attempt to eliminate his debt, debt that includes a $1.180 million judgment he reportedly owes to Armin Augstein, a German man who had returned Leslie’s lost laptop in 2010 and who was promised a large reward.
According to an article in the
New York Post by Kathianne Boniello, “Leslie reneged on the reward, and still hasn’t paid despite a successful lawsuit brought by Augstein, who says in court papers the singer made nearly $500,000 in the first half of 2013 alone”.
Some interesting background on the Manhattan-based rapper from
Wikipedia:
Anthony Ryan Leslie, who was born on September 25, 1978, in Washington, D.C., is a record producer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and rapper. He is the founder of the media company
NextSelection Lifestyle Group, which has produced music for artists in genres ranging from R&B/hip-hop to pop to gospel.
Leslie was born into a multicultural family, the oldest son of mother (Evangeline) Mooi Leslie and father Clement Leslie. At an early age, Wikipedia states, Leslie taught himself how to play the piano. When he was 14, Leslie scored a perfect 1600 on his SATs. The following year he applied to four
University of California campuses as well as
Stanford, Yale and
Harvard, explaining in his application essays that he wished to enter college without having earned his high school diploma. He was accepted to all the schools except Stanford. He decided to attend Harvard College, from which he graduated at age 19, with a degree in Government. During the undergraduate Class Day ceremonies, Leslie was chosen the
Harvard Male Orator, one of four seniors who deliver orations to the graduating senior class.
Certainly an interesting man, regardless of his alleged reneging on a promise.
