The owner of Shin’s Sushi Bar, Hyun Joon “Steve” Shin, who is president of the Dalin Corporation, recently filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing assets of $17,565 and liabilities of $49,759. Dalin’s largest debt was to State of California Labor Commissioner Yong Jun Zhu.
The restaurant, located in downtown San Luis Obispo, California, has now been renamed Aisuru, and is owned by a corporation called C52297 Inc, with Matthew H. Kim as president.
According to a story on www.sanluisobispo.com by Julia Hickey, Steve and Min “Jane” Shin opened the sushi restaurant in September 2004 after operating Yamato Japanese Restaurant for six years.
Justin Kim (no relation to Matthew H. Kim), manager of Shin’s for at least three years, was not aware that Steve Shin had placed the business in bankruptcy. Kim stated that Mr. Shin “wasn’t here much”.
Justin Kim commented that business at the fish emporium had been slow, estimating that sales were down 20% to 30% as compared with those two years ago.
