Kentucky Woman Faces Arson & Bankruptcy Fraud Charges
Written by CFB Blogger. Posted in Blog
A federal
Grand Jury in Bowling Green, Kentucky, has recently charged Debra Fowler Kessinger with one count of maliciously damaging and destroying, and attempting to damage and destroy, a
Dollar General Store, by means of fire. She was also charged in a separate, two-count superseding indictment with bankruptcy fraud.
From an article in the
Bowling Green Daily News, the indictment states that “beginning in April 2008 and continuing through December 2009, Kessinger devised a scheme to defraud her creditors, the U.S. trustee and the bankruptcy court by submitting a fraudulent Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition, which concealed and failed to disclose the purchase and possession of property, and the receipt and transfer of life insurance proceeds and retirement benefits of her late husband to the bank accounts of family members and others for her own benefit”.
If convicted, the news report continues, Kessinger faces five to 20 years in prison for the arson charge, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release. She also faces forfeiture of property, no more than 10 years in prison for bankruptcy fraud and a fine of $500,000.
This case is being prosecuted by an
Assistant United States Attorney and is being investigated by the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
