Big State Remodeling and its president, Randolph “Randy” Reid, have recently filed separate Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. Each bankruptcy case lists $1 million to $10 million in liabilities; $500,000 to $1 million in assets and estimates creditors (businesses or individuals) of between 100 to 200.
According to an article by Karen Smith Welch for the
Amarillo Globe News, Reid’s bankruptcy filing is an individual case for personal bankruptcy that lists he has done business as
Big State Remodeling Inc., Backyard Spa and Leisure LLC, Big State Granite Transformations LLC, RDB Reid Investments LLC, Big State Remodeling Management LLC and
Big State Remodeling Ltd. U.S Bankruptcy Court records reveal that Reid had previously filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 1996 in Houston.
The
Better Business Bureau (BBB) had revoked the construction company’s accreditation in October “due to the company’s failure to eliminate underlying causes of complaints consumers made to the BBB, unresolved complaints and failure ‘to honor an arbitration award after committing to do so’, the BBB website said,” the news story avers.
There have been 15 complaints against the business over the past three years. The most recent complaint filed this past January was from a customer who had made a deposit of just over $6,000 and had a signed contract for work that was to have begun last November. Reportedly, the remodeling company did not respond to either that customer or to the BBB regarding the problem.
Rather ironically,
Remodeling magazine cited Randy Reid and his brother, Tim Reid, in its 2009
Big 50 under the category
“Movers & Shakers”. The article listed the company’s 2008 sales volume as $6.3 million.
Oh how the mighty have fallen—and taken their customers along with them.
