Another Celebrity Bankruptcy

Oksana Grigorieva has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. So, who is this Oksana Grigorieva and why are we writing about her? Well, she just happens to be the former girlfriend of Mel Gibson, one-time movie idol and star of “Lethal Weapon”. Gibson and the Russian songwriter were apparently involved in a heated custody battle concerning their daughter, Lucia, in 2011.  Ms Grigorieva won $750,000 from Gibson in the settlement, which was ordered to be paid in installments until 2016. But, according to the Houston Chronicle and TMZ.com, Grigorieva’s funds have run dry and she has filed bankruptcy. In her bankruptcy filing, she lists $48,000 in assets and $438,000 in debts. Grigorieva claims she is owed money for song royalties and some of her own paintings. She has income from actor Timothy Dalton with whom she has a son, as well as $20,000 a month from Gibson. It seems, however, that it is not enough to cover her debt and keep up with her daily living expenses. Grigorieva claims that most of her debt is from the legal fees incurred during her custody battle against Gibson, in which she was offered a $15 million settlement, which she refused. Maybe she should have accepted that offer.
