Louisiana Man Faces Prison Time for Bankruptcy Fraud
Written by CFB Blogger. Posted in Blog
Kirby L. Daigle, a resident of Opelousas, Louisiana, is facing up to five years in prison after recently pleading guilty to concealing his bail bonds business income during his Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing back in December 2009. On his bankruptcy documents he fraudulently stated that he was unemployed and had no income from operating a business. Daigle has reportedly entered a conditional guilty plea to one count of making a false statement under penalty of perjury during bankruptcy proceedings. The plea will become final when accepted by the U.S. District Judge.
According to an article in the
Daily World by William Johnson, Daigle listed income from veteran’s benefits and
Social Security disability payments. However, he owned a bail bonds business where he wrote bonds and collected commissions on those bonds at the time of his bankruptcy filing.
Daigle could face up to a maximum of five years in prison, three years of supervised release as well as a $250,000 fine.
