Time is Up for Garage Door Company

Designer Doors, a company that manufactures overhead and entry garage doors, shutters and gates, has shuttered operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
The company, which is owned by Steve Williams, began in Minnesota in 1987, and moved to River Falls, Wisconsin, in 1996. According to a news account in the
River Falls Journal by Steve Dzubay, the 40-50 employees of the garage door manufacturer, found out about the closure when they came to work last month. The company had been closed the preceding week, apparently due to a dearth of new orders.
The company, which was founded by Kent Forsland, began the company by fabricating steel garage doors. However, the story stated, “In recent years the company was reported to be shipping out 50 handcrafted, carriage-style wood doors for houses and businesses each week. Most sales came from New England, the Mid-Atlantic states and Florida. Forsland sold his company to Williams in 2011.”
Forsland still owns the building and surrounding five acres; when he learned of the company’s closure and bankruptcy he stated, “’I can say it’s a shock…disappointing for everybody.’”
At its peak, Designer Doors reportedly employed some 100 people, down to between 40 and fifty at the current time.
