Fraudulent Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Filed on Arizona Energy Company
Written by CFB Blogger. Posted in Blog
Just this past January, a fraudulent Chapter 7 bankruptcy was filed in the name of
UNS Energy Corp., parent of
Tucson Electric Power Co.
in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Tucson. Somebody had forged the signatures of company executives, reports David Wichner in the
Arizona Daily Star.
In February, a similar falsified bankruptcy was filed in the name of
“Tucson Energy Power Corporation,” with TEP and other UNS units named as affiliates, the story adds.
The attorney for the Tucson, Arizona-based energy company stated that the company quickly halted the bankruptcy case, adding that both “company operations and customer service were unaffected”.
He averred that utility companies are occasionally the subject of billing scams, but added that “the bogus bankruptcy filings were a first in his seven years with the company”.
Reportedly, UNS Energy is to be acquired by Canada-based utility operator
Fortis Inc. The American company “is financially strong and the deal is moving forward with shareholder and regulatory approvals”, their lawyer commented.
